It's all about that bass

This video sent my eyeballs into shock, first time.

Remember the days when a woman would be horrified at the thought of looking like she had a big ass?

Well, I do - but it seems like a lifetime ago, in another world. There has been a seismic shift in popular culture.
And I say hooray!

I'm kind of scared of the Nicki Minaj one. Intimidating!

Second one's cute, though :)

Oh yeah, I remember what I was going to say - NM's vid is intimidating because it most of all reminds me of a work out video. Those are some worked out women!

Given that both of these are body positive, I found it rather depressing when I encountered an article that spent most of its time ranting about how Trainor wasn't fat or black enough to deserve the right to sing the song.

It was rather depressing.

I love both of those songs though.

I think they're both really great - though NM is definitely more sexually aggressive and, yes, intimidating. MT is like the "safe for under-18s" version of the sentiment!

t'Sade ... that article depresses but doesn't surprise me. There seems to be a competition to prove one's intellectual prowess/ PC cultural credentials by being negative about everything.

People can criticize the nuances, and I'm not suggesting that either video is god's gift to 3rd-wave feminism; I just think it's a huge relief for women who aren't skinny (and that's *most* of us) to see it portrayed as a positive.
