WAP

This truly magnificent video and very catchy track has been quite controversial recently, it appears. Politicians have been parading their shocked tears. Because it's okay for male rappers to go on about how horny they are feel, but if women do it they are a threat to civilisation. You can read all about it here if you like.

The version above, by the way, is the censored one. Full and filthy lyrics here:

And if you think any of this is new, Whores of Yore has an EPIC Twitter thread about blues lyrics by women in the 1920s and 30s that will make your jaw drop and your hair curl!

"I got nipples on my titties big as the end of my thumb

I got somethin' 'tween my legs  'll make a dead man come.

....

Say I fucked all night, and all the night before baby,

And I feel just like I wanna, fuck some more”.

All power to those wonderful women who fiercely own their sexual desire!  πŸ’–πŸ‘ΏπŸ’–

Mad Max MMMMMMMYEAH

When Lisa Jenkins, publisher at Sinful Press, asked me what my ideal cover image for Lust in the Dust would be, I told her, "THIS:"

Mad Max: Fury Road

Post-apocalyptic grime? Check.
Conflict? Check.
Imperator Furiosa sitting on someone's face? Check.

That's my personal idea of sexy πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ but hey, your experience may vary.

She's beautiful though...

And so's the eponymous Max, let's face it:

In fact if you are old enough to remember the original trilogy, and Mel Gibson before he officially outed himself as a dickhead, the entire Mad Max franchise is a rich seam of moody, post-apocalyptic hotness...

... and kink:

HELL YEAH AUNTIE ENTITY!

And if that's got your juices flowing, well, there's always this book... 😜

Black Sails

While we on holiday in lovely sunny Dorset (Brrrrr!) last week, we watched a whole lot of Black Sails. It's the series you want if you like pirates but found Pirates of the Caribbean just too damn silly, and woefully deficient in lesbian sex:

There are boobs, bums and cocks in Black Sails, which is why it's here on my blog 😈 Also, two series in, we've seen two poly threesomes, which is pretty heartening ... even if there's no guarantee that the individuals won't have betrayed each other twice before tea.  Characters in Black Sails change their allegiances with dizzying frequency.

It's a giant, high-speed political soap opera really, with a background of sailing ships and mass murder. Every action has unforeseen (and usually terrible) consequences. The premise (if you are even further behind the curve than me and need to be told) is that it's set twenty years before Treasure Island, so there's a really clever mixture of fictional characters like Long John Silver and Captain Flint ...

... alongside historical characters such as 'Calico Jack' Rackham, Charles Vane and Anne Bonny:

Of course most of the main characters are SCARY HAWT, because this is television...

Even the ugly ones are hot, particularly Vane who sort of looks like an Uruk-hai with maxed-out charisma:

And who am I to complain? 😍

Black Sails also has gorgeous sea scenery, tons of violence, and THIS wonderful intro sequence:

What it doesn't have, despite the above, is any undead. Oh well ... back to Game of Thrones for that!

DVD review: Strange Days

Remember Strange Days? No? Even sci-fi fans might have missed this 1995 movie, despite the fact it was written and produced by James Cameron, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, stars some well-known actors and has a kick-ass soundtrack. It tanked at the box-office for reasons that are beyond me.

I watched it for the first time this week and I want to sing its [qualified] praises. It's set in a then-futuristic 1999 just at the flashpoint of the Millennium. Society is barely holding it together and in LA the law is stretched thin. Ralph Feinnes stars as Lenny, a weasley seller of illegal VR experiences recorded direct from peoples' brains, who is still pining for his dead-eyed ex-girlfriend Faith (Juliette Lewis), who ditched him for an even slimier low-life music producer.

Angela Bassett plays his best friend Mace, who puts up with Lenny's shit WAY above and beyond the call of duty.

"There there, you useless idiot. Who made you the hero FFS?"
There's a plot involving a secret SQUID recording that Must Not Fall Into the Wrong Hands, a serial killer who tapes his snuff adventures, and much hanging about in neon-lit clubs or next to burning cars. It's beautifully shot, and though Lewis isn't the greatest actor she sure belts out a song:

But what really makes the movie now is its unnerving prescience. Without giving too much away, its tangled plot resonates with the current Black Lives Matter movement and eyeballs a racially divided America. When Mace asks if maybe they shouldn't just let full scale revolt kick off and burn everything to the ground, you've really got to wonder if the old system is worth preserving , and at what cost, to whom?

Caveats: This might not be the movie for you if you are sensitive to cinematic violence - and particularly sexual violence. It's a hardboiled thriller. Also, at this stage even middle-aged white peeps like me are wondering "Why's the protag a white guy? Can't Mace be the main character?" ... but that's 1990s Hollywood for you.

You should really watch it for Angela Bassett though, because she is DA BOMB.

The Domino effect

I watched Deadpool 2 yesterday. Don't worry, no spoilers, but I thought it was loads of clever, violent fun. And now I am drooling over super-cool Domino, played by Zazie Beetz.

You know how I like kick-ass women ... I mean, 😍😍😍

Princess power

Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale: The Ugly Princess (1902)
Princesses: Why do they have to be beautiful?

Do they have to be anything but beautiful?

Why do we tell stories about them at all? In an egalitarian era, what exactly is our interest in the well-born and talentless? And why do we insist on filling childrens' heads in particular with these lazy, outdated, regressive tropes?

Can you tell I'm in a combatative mood? πŸ˜›

The subject is on my mind because Charlotte Bond, horror and fantasy writer, has been asking various authors about their princess-related thoughts for her blog. Here are my answers to her questions...

Margaery was hot though

That cobra though...

I came across this clip today - a jaw-dropping blend of sexy dance, Orientalism, and really bad puppetry - from a movie I've never seen BUT NOW MUST WATCH.

It looks truly epic: equal parts awful/highly entertaining ;-)

The Expanse

"My eyes are up here"
I just want to say how much I am LOVING the Netflix series The Expanse, which has got to be the best space-based SF since the Battlestar Galactica relaunch and is kicking Star Trek's flabby ass.

And I do not just love it for Amos as depicted above, who is sort of a pit-bull in human form (complete with puppy-dog eyes). It has whole diverse cast of sexy - ahem - I mean engaging characters, and a compelling three-strand plot that twines together to reveal an epic alien threat to all human life.

There's the self-described Shit Magnets who start off as miners in the asteroid belt, thoroughly oppressed by the ever-bickering governments of Earth and Mars, and stumble onto a nasty NASTY secret:

The Designated Adult, the Pitbull, the Wannabe Hero Who is a Bit of a Tosser, and the Nerdy One
There's the Earth-based political shenanigans in the UN;

She scares me more than the Alien
And the mystery thriller plot when a crooked cop tries to track down a missing woman:

By Season Two you also get some Martian Marine characters involved in their own related crisis:

Have you noticed that this SF future isn't predominantly White? Awesome! And they have a lot of fun with languages and accents.

The setting is gritty-to-grim, with every difficult decision having even more difficult consequences, and no shying away from the moral baggage.

THIS. THIS.
And yeah,  it's sexy, of course πŸ’– That never puts me off!

I can't wait for Series 3!

Shame!

There are several reasons you should watch this video RIGHT NOW:
  1. If you are a Game of Thrones fan, it is extremely funny. Yes, that is the same Septa.
  2. It's an advert for Sodastream, but the message is right on point.
  3. The Advertising Standards Authority/Facebook/Youtube banned it for use of the word "fuck," so it keeps being removed from t'Internet.
  4. The International Bottled Water Association is taking Sodastream to court to stop them saying that plastic bottle waste is bad for the environment. Fuck them.

Go West

That awkward moment when you spot your characters wandering round in someone else's TV series...

I'm totally loving Westworld at the moment - it's high-concept speculative fiction, very violent, very twisty-turny, with lots of nudity (male and female), a fairly diverse cast and some strong female roles. It asks awkward existential and moral questions about humanity. Like the theme park it depicts, it's stuffed with clever detail that makes you feel pleased with yourself for working it out (which the writers actually point out through a character, the clever-meta-clogs).

It has a ton of cast eyecandy :-)

But I was both delighted and genuinely freaked-out when doppelgangers of my current characters Milja and Egan showed up and then went out on a quest together!

Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) is a prickly, smart programmer of androids.

Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) is the security chief with the muscles and the gun whose job it is to protect everyone.

I'm now way too invested in those characters and really hope they survive to have WILD, ON-SCREEN SEX together. Which sadly isn't looking too likely at the moment...

Eeek!

Wonder Woman

I LOVE THE NEW WONDER WOMAN in Batman Vs Superman

1) She is massively hot

 2) She looks totally badass

3) She is neither WASPy nor some goddamn teenager. Gal Gadot is 30.

I never had any interest in the character until now, but I want to see more WW movies!
