Perversion in the Library

Heh heh! I've just been sent the new Japanese cover for my story Issues and Returns (which originally appeared in the Exposure anthology from Mischief.)

In Japanese the story title is  Toshokan no Shizukana Tōsaku - which translates as Perversion in the Library.

Well, I guess it does what it says on the tin, lol!

Making Mischief

Today is the official Mischief Books launch day - happy birthday Mischief! - and I'm delighted to be able to mark it personally with an interview up on their blog.

(The Mischief Blog is run by the inestimable Rachel Kramer Bussel, by the way. How great is that?!)

Mostly I'm talking about Red Grow the Roses, of course, and sexy vampires in general. Rachel was quick to spot the touches of humour in what is a relatively dark book. I'm glad of that!

Now if I could only learn to write "Mischief," instead of "Mischeif" EVERY blinking time, I'd be laughing...

Issues and Returns - out now

I've been waiting years for the excuse to use this picture on my blog!

And now I have my chance, because my story Issues and Returns (see what I did there?) is available from Mischief press, in their e-anthology Exposure: those who love to watch and be watched. It's all about a library assistant in a university library (I wonder where I got that idea, ahem) who gets up to naughtiness among the stacks. Despite my pic, Kelly isn't actually a nymphomanic ... just bored out of her mind by her miserable bloody job.

(No actual resemblance to any of my past employment history intended. Honestly. You believe, me, don't you?)

Shorts coming down

I've barely recovered from a tipsy night at the Naked Muse preview and I'm off to take part in the More Bang Charity Reading Slam tonight, so I have to go practice my reading, but there's just time to catch up with story sale news.

I've sold three shorties (all around 1500 words) to Harlequin Spice: they're going to appear in a book edited by Alison Tyler but I don't have a title or a cover or a line-up or a publication date (given it's Harlequin ... probably not any time real soon). I believe there are going to be 69 short-short stories in the anthology. Mine are called Attic Moment;  Love, Honour and Obey; and Hare Coursing.

I have an outrageous BDSM story called Teppanyaki in Anything For You: kinky couples erotica (ed. Rachel Kramer Bussel) and due out in August. Teppanyaki,  if you haven't tried it, is a Japanese style of hotplate cooking and my story is about a dinner party that would NOT feature on "Come Dine with Me."  Heh.

'Misbehaviour' in the Library

Phew! I've completed the first draft of Issues and Returns, my short story submission for the 'Misbehaviour'-themed Black Lace collection due out next year. It was tough going: the stories are supposed to be around 6000 words and for a long time I was convinced that I'd never make it to 4K. As it happened, I finished it off at 6.5K so now I'm cutting!


For this story I drew once again on my gruesome employment record, setting it in a university library. No, I don't say which university! - Do you think I want hoards of irate librarians getting mad at me? But I've always associated academic libraries with feeling horny. It's the silence I think: all those people, and so much tense silence.


There are 4 Black Lace short story collections in the pipeline, all contemporary non-paranormal anthologies. I've promised to submit copy to each collection, so that's Number Three done and dusted. I've been accepted for Number One ("Seduction") and we're all anxiously awaiting news on Number 2 ("Liaisons").


Fingers crossed...
