Perk of the job
One of the best bits about writing ... is the books you have an excuse to buy in the name of research ;-)
I agree! And setting my series in Montana meant a couple of research trips north. I'd never been there before, and chose the area where I'd set pack headquarters for my Chanku as a destination for one of our trips. I'd been using Google Maps and Google Earth to get a feel for the country, but seeing it in person made all the difference! Trip was a tax write off, but I use what I learned in and saw in every book I write about my Chanku shapeshifters.
And, as you well know, it's a prerequisite to writing romance that we stay abreast of trends, styles, and sub-genres.
Reading popular romances is important to keeping my writing fresh.

I've used SO MANY of my trips abroad in my writing ... It really is one of the best things ever. You get to appreciate the journey twice over <3
