Yes! Yes!! YES!!!

Wow. Incredible. The US has risen above its past and its worst impulses to take a chance on the future.
Would you ever have believed they would vote in a black guy to be president?
My battered and bleeding faith in the human race has just been rescued from death's door.
Congratulations Mr Obama and Good Luck - given the current state of things you'll need it.

NB: There's a copy of his acceptance speech here - well worth reading.

I know, I know!
Some of the reaction footage from black American voters just moved me to tears.
And btw I thought McCain's speech in defeat was excellent: gracious and thoughtful.

God, I just didn't dare hope. It feels like we've woken up and the world's all different and possible.

Mind you, I remember feeling like this back when Labour got in with that landslide victory. Plus ca change. Says the pessimist.

[And now I'm sending the pessimist off for the day and just celebrating! ]
