This is what happens when your in-laws get on T' Internet...

... They start sending you pictures of weird shit. Actually these pictures of rice paddy art from Japan are pretty cool, I think.

It started in Inkadate, where 15,000 square metres is now under artistic cultivation, but is spreading to other areas. No dye is involved.

It's achieved by precision planting of yellow, purple and green varieties of rice.

They're plotted from temporary towers because they're hard to see from ground-level.

And some of them are pretty big! After all this of course, they get harvested and eaten.

Talking of rice ... try out the vocabulary quiz on Free Rice. It costs you nothing (but watch out, it's addictive!) and it donates rice to the World Food Programme. What's your score?

Wow, wonderful pictures.

I got up to 45 out of sixty, and I should be painting the kids' bedroom!

I just noticed last night that Free Rice now offers other topics in addition to English vocabulary—like language learning!

Oh yes - and maths! Which I avoid ... But I have had a go at their "famous paintings" recognition quiz a few times.

I Free Rice every day! I'm up to 62. I now know what chirm means!

P.S. Did you get my email, hon?

62?!? I blanche before your magnificence, Charlotte!

And no, I haven't had any e-mail from you in months :-(
Not even when I wrote and said "GO SEE INCEPTION!!"
I think my e-mail is playing up again. *sob*

Argh! I have no idea if my emails are getting through to you, hon! I emailed you about Inception, I emailed you about that other good thing, I emailed you about blogging! I've just emailed you at that new address you've sent, with my Charlotte Stein email address. Has it gotten through?

I know you probably hate Twitter, but sometimes I really wish you were on it!

Hmm.. I wonder if you might not have received my semi-recentish e-mails, either. (Though, looking back at them, they didn't contain anything of much import. Or export.)

I got that story one you sent, Jezza! Am pretty sure that's all, recently tho...seem to be getting emails fine from everyone else.

Whoops—sorry, not you, CMVS. I meant JA. : )

These are wonderful. Puts corn mazes to shame!

Thanks for reminding me about Free Rice; I haven't been there in too long. I think because it WAS so addictive--but for a good cause.

i wish my dad could send me cool stuff like this, but he of the engineering degree (granted, in 1953) can't so much as send an email without crashing his computer.

Oh bugger. I think I'm going to have to get a new e-mail account.
I know I've been finding it impossible to get through to some (but not all) friends on Hotmail. Is there some Orange v. Hotmail war going on that I don't know about?

Susan,I am starting to know how your dad feels! I swear there are just some of us who can cause malfunction by mere proximity.
