It's August Bank Holiday here in Land of Mud. For those of you who don't live here, this is a public holiday steeped in tradition. The tradition being that you pile the kids in the car and drive toward the coast. Having sat for at least an hour in stationary traffic along with the other hundreds of thousands of other coast-seeking families, you eventually get to sit in the car in the car park and stare out at the drizzle, and utter the traditional words: "Call this bloody August?"
This may be, at your discretion, followed up by some remark - ironic or simply ignorant - upon the theme of Global Warming.
Personally, I'm staying home and posting pictures of what I'd like to see on an August bank holiday. And I may indulge in another bank holiday tradition and go walk round a DIY store.

That is not a very pretty penis, somehow.
But god, if you could bottle the way that girl clearly feels... sigh.
We have no bank holiday! The daughter is back to school today, and back to school sunny weather is here, as ALWAYS. You can always trust back to school weather and exam weather.
Our version back in the colonies, Labor Day which falls the first weekend in September, will be, well, next weekend. The weekend observed may different, but many of the traditions remain the same.
I, like you, won't fall in line with tradition this year. Matter of fact, the home store may be on my agenda too.
Whatever comes, enjoy the day. Me, I gotta get off to work. :-(
Oh, I'm sorry you don't like the cock Jo. I thought it was rather charming. Though the girl on the prom is Something Else.
:-)
Hope you had a reasonable day at work Craig. Only a week to hold out until your own long weekend!
Monday was yesterday, right? I've just spent the last 15 minutes wondering what I was doing on the bank holiday... oh yeah - playing catchup with some writing, though I only managed 700 words in the end. But I also got an acceptance from Xcite for a short story and that kind of made up for it.
I try to leave DIY stores severely alone on bank holidays. The queues are too long, and anyway they sell too many sex toys - power tools, chain, rope, workbenches, that kind of thing. My imagination would have been overstimulated...
Yay Fulani! Congrats on the sale!
My imagination would have been overstimulated... Oh, but surely that is GOOD thing!
PS I added you to my blogroll sidebar ... just over the Fuck Yeahs :-)
That may be what it's like up in the free North, Janine. Down here we had the Infestival. Hordes of filthy wellington-booted people and the drums out over the valley late into the night as they consumate their bizarre rituals. The horror over Reading- shudder!
Wish I'd been there! I watched some of the festival on iPlayer tho', which is the middle-aged thing to do :-)
So you have - thank you!
I'd better start putting stuff on my blog worth reading now...
Land of mud, huh? Oh, no!
Like Craig, I celebrated the "bank holiday" last weekend - and I was also found wandering about a DIY store.
Hey, where else can you find such a fine collection of power tools. Wait. Don't answer that. :-)
