Prick up your ears

Protect your ears, people ... there's smut out there!

Last week I was asked to provide a couple of snippets from Red Grow the Roses for recording by a voice actor. I'll let you know if they ever go up on Youtube as intended ... although to be frank there is nothing more embarrassing for me, as an author, than listening to someone else read my work out loud. I don't know why that is, but I just grit my teeth and cringe!

In the meantime, I recently discovered that there are several audio recordings already available from Audible that include my wicked words:

Cruel Enchantment  - my first short story collection
(sample listener review: "I was distubed by the images this author painted. Therapy might help.")

Alison's Wonderland (ed. Alison Tyler) - includes Gold, On Snow

Frenzy (ed. Alison Tyler) - includes Pirate Treasure

Sweet Love (ed. Violet Blue) - includes Jump or Fall?

Best Women's Erotica 2011 (ed. Violet Blue) - includes Abigail's Ice Cream

The Handsome Prince (ed. Neil Plakcy) - includes Reckless

Happy listening!

Eyecandy Monday - and Cleis Press special offer!

Have you noticed how many books Cleis Press have been announcing lately? They've upped their production to 48 titles for 2011. More books! More lovely dirty stories!

To celebrate this they've announced a 20% discount on all books bought through their Cleis website and Viva Editions (non-smut). Click here for details - you need to enter a code when ordering. This offer is good through 31st December, which means you can buy pressies for friends - or spend your Xmas money from Auntie Edna in a way she would not approve of, heh heh.

Buying direct from the publisher, btw, means a lot more money going to them than if you buy through, say, Amazon instead. And more money for Cleis means more erotica anthologies in future for me to sub to!
:-)

And just in case you are some sort of wealthy Ashbless completist, my stories appear in the following Cleis collections:

"I" is for Indecent
Playing With Fire: taboo erotica
Frenzy: 60 stories of sudden sex
Best Women's Erotica 2009
Sweet Love: erotic fantasies for couples
Fairy Tale Lust
Best Women's Erotica 2011
Best Bondage Erotica 2011
Carnal Machines: steampunk erotica  (pre-order only)

Eyecandy Monday

For those of you who prefer a more masculine arse to that in the previous post:
[REDACTED]
Here's a roundup of some positive news:

For those of you wondering what happened to my Arabian Nights novel Heart of Flame, it has been read by the editor at CatScratch and she promises me a list of changes/corrections soon.

My short story The High Ground (the one starring Eric Stoltz, ahem) has been accepted for the Black Lace anthology The Affair, to be published in November this year. The High Ground is about a woman who thinks her husband is having an affair with his best friend's wife, so she decides to tell the best friend. Oops...

I've belatedly discovered TwoLips Reviews, which has very nice reviews of Wildwood: ("I love the blend of the paranormal and love; Wildwood is a fantastic journey, full of hot steamy moments, sometimes with over the top sex, and enough mystery to keep you wanting more.") plus Magic & Desire, Enchanted, and Lust at First Bite - thank you TwoLips!

And the indefatigable Lucy Felthouse has a nice review of Seduction up, describing it as "the hottest Black Lace title to date", plus there are a slew of reviews of Playing With Fire over here on its dedicated blog.

Oh, and this review of Frenzy showed up on Amazon:

"The 60 short erotic stories in this novel centered around the theme of sex that happens quickly or unexpectedly. My hands-down favorite was Pirate Treasure by Janine Ashbless. Two extras in a pirate movie hook up during the filming of a tavern scene, with no one around them the wiser. I re-read this story twice, it still elicited the same visceral reaction. Hot, hot, hot! Nikki Magennis contributed two very short-shorts, Madrid and Sweets, that read like beautiful erotic poems ... I loved Alison Tyler's own contribution, [...] about a man who's worked his way through all the waitresses at his favorite bar. The new girl knows he's bad news, but she also knows he'll be completely worth the trouble. With 60 stories to choose from, there were far too many I liked to mention them all. Even the few stories that didn't appeal to me personally were well-written. The majority of the stories are heterosexual pairings, with just a few gay or lesbian stories in the mix. I would recommend this book to friends based on the variety and excellent writing."

November Publications

It's sort of snuck up on me while I was away on holiday, but Frenzy: 60 stories of sudden sex is out now and available for purchase - though, I believe, only in the US. It hasn't appeared on Amazon UK yet.

I'm afraid I can't tell you much about the contents because my contributor copy is still in the post! So I don't even know the full author lineup. All I know is that there are 60 stories, all short (couple of thousand words max) and to the point, including my Pirate Treasure, and stories from the delectable Nikki Magennis, Jeremy Edwards, Craig J Sorensen,Teresa Noelle Roberts and Donna George Storey among, presumably, many others.

For those driven to suicidal despair by the frustration of not being able to order Frenzy from a UK source, there is of course always Lust at First Bite, the all-vampire erotica collection - which is out now in the UK (US readers will have to wait until January). Console yourself with 15 tales of blood-sucking undead hotties (uh ... coldies?) including my The Blood of the Martyrs.

I'll think I'll probably run an excerpt next week...

The Bad News: Some fuckoid has cloned my e-mail address and is using it to spam people. I know this because as of 8th November I started to get spam from myself. I want to issue a general and ongoing apology to any recipient, but I don't know how it happened and there's nothing I can do to stop it. Even changing my contact e-mail to a new one won't stop the trash arriving from the old.

To the person who did this: I hope your dick drops off.

Marketing Frenzy

In case you hadn't noticed, the forthcoming short story anthology Flash Fucking: 60 stories of sudden sex, which includes my story Pirate Treasure, has now been renamed Frenzy:60 stories of sudden sex.

It's not my place to say so, but I suspect this was probably a wise marketing move. How many people are going to walk into their nice neighbourhood bookstore and say "Have you got a copy of Flash Fucking?" after all...

I think it's still due out in October, from Cleis. I know my mates Jeremy Edwards and Nikki Magennis are among the other authors included. 60 Bangs for your buck(s), guys! It should carry a health warning! ("This book may cause RSI and blindness".)

Piratical News!

Shiver me timbers mateys! My short story Pirate Treasure has been picked by editor Alison Tyler for the Cleis Press anthology Flash Fucking: 60 Stories of Sudden Sex, due out in October this year.

It's not actually about pirates - it's about a film extra working on a pirate movie (Big thanks to my friend Ro for the insider info on being an extra). So to celebrate I'm putting up this picture of me in my favourite pirate costume, which is based on the one worn in Cutthroat Island, and is the dress "worn" in my story.

And because I've removed Pirate Treasure, there is now a brand new story to read on my website! (Click on "Free Story" in the left menu.)
