Oh look, we're all still here

And this report made me even smugger (Yes, I know, that's hard to imagine): Atheists have better sex

  1. Curses, I guess I'll have to do my ironing after all.

I have a feeling that study found what it was looking for, in the time honoured manner of all psychological research.

  2. Oh yes, the study was definitely from the Department of the Bleeding Obvious ... if you feel guilty about having a wank, it's going to make you feel bad when you do it, obviously. Which you will, obviously.

But it's certainly true in my own case.

  4. As an atheist I wasn't expecting to go anywhere anyway! Wasn't it only the 'true believers' who were going to be taken? I guess there's a bunch of people disappointed they're still here and therefore who can't have been true believers, or who maybe even think they have been taken by the Rapture and that heaven is a pretty strange place since it seems exactly like the world they 'left behind'. Including the need to go to work on Monday morning...

  5. ah..well..i already told jo last night that the whole thing makes me kind of sad for the people who believe in the truth or rathe ridea of the rapture...i hate how they try to keep their faith but deep in their hearts they still feel disapointed...

oh and i hate how these things make me feel like...of course i wasnt expecting that the rapture comes..but the atmosphere such prophecies create always make me feel nervous..as if the air is full with their weird ideas...shudder*...

The antidote is mockery. Weird paranoid shit thrives on the natural suggestability of the human mind. Humour is, on a very important psychological level, the only weapon we have against this dangerous tendency in others and ourselves.

Or as Chaos Magicians might say: Laughter dispels evil spirits.
    ;-)

  7. 'Or as Chaos Magicians might say: Laughter dispels evil spirits' - how true. And while I know writers have minds that collect all sorts of information, now I'm wondering why I hadn't picked up before that you know stuff about chaos magic (or magick, depending on choice)...

BTW this whole episode just set me off figuring the angles on the rapture as a potential setting for a piece of erotica...

  8. My brain is a junk shop full of odds and ends, Fulani...

And damn - that is a great idea for a story. Now I wish I'd got there before you!

  9. I suspect how you'd tackle it and how I'd tackle it would be quite different things, so it's not as if we'd be in competition over the idea... If the idea's attractive, just go for it!

  10. Well, here's a laugh...

People have been leaving sets clothes laid out on the street as though their wearer has been taken in the rapture.
