TftD: We all live in a Capital I ...
This song haunted me throughout my childhood. It has to mean something, doesn't it?
As the older sibling of a Sesame Street viewer (I was a little "too old," though of course one really never is), I was vaguely aware of the capital I song... and then, when I became obsessed with the Beatles, it took on a new significance for me. This wasn't just a Sesame Street bit; this was a Beatles-inspired Sesame Street bit!
And we close the door. Retreating within the ego-walls?
I was exposed to Sesame Street because I grew up in Hong Kong where we got a lot of American TV. It made its way to the UK later, so few British people of my (advanced) age have the same fond memories of it as I do. But actually I think its tolerant liberal agenda influenced me a lot. Not to mention the monsters :-)

ReplyDeleteP.S. I forgot to mention how I've always loved the hilarious minimalist anticlimactic nature of the final couplet!
