Low-Carb Diet: Day 6

Today's Menu:

Breakfast: 3 eggs, scrambled

Lunch: Special Cauliflower cheese (Okay it was worth making after all - delicious), Half a tomato.

Dinner: Parmesan and macademia nut salad (yes, again: because I wanted it).

Snack: Greek yoghurt with flax seeds. (Damn, I've run out of yoghurt.)

The end of Week 1 is in sight. Having resisted the lemon cupcakes present at last night's boardgaming I feel ready to take on anything ... except maybe more bloody washing up. Sheesh! It spontaneously generates itself, I swear; I never actually get down to a clear deck. Why did nobody warn me about this? When it comes to cooking you lose hours of life just to sorting out the kitchen every day.

  1. You're on a weird crazy no-carb diet?! NOooo! Janine, I'm surprised and dismayed! Please eat some starch at once before I come over there and force-feed you Susie Orbach page by page.

(Of course, you may not be inclined to take nutritional advice from someone the size of a small East European country...)

Really and truly, though, these faddy diets ... it is not logical.

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants"

You know it makes sense. ; )

    - and now I'm going to have my second breakfast, which I think will be a fried cheese sandwich. Hell yes!

  2. Yes yes, I know, we should all love our bodies no matter what shape we are and it's attitude that makes you sexy not shape. I know. I've read all the articles. I follow Shapely Prose.

Well tough. I don't love my flab. I can't. It may not be rational or adult or empowered but I don't feel happy getting my kit off in front of other people if I'm feeling fat and ugly. Self-consciousness and shame stops me having sex. I don't like not having sex. So I try to lose weight.

This was probably rather more information than anyone wanted! My apologies for not being as together as you thought I was.

  3. Sorry, love, I didn't mean to sound so high-handed. And really, I'm not pro-fatness either - having an over-abundance of assets at the best of times I totally understand how insecure and rotten it can make one feel to be overweight.

I just mean that I think faddy diets are dodgy at best. They sound so unhealthy. I'm not convinced they're safe, or even that they work in the long run.

Again, sorry if I sounded preachy. I was just trying to be funny. And convince you that wheat is not evil ... ; )

  4. Nikki, I wasn't upset - you are so not a bossy high-handed person! You're lovely! I was a little anxious airing my insecurities in public, but that's my choice.

Yeah, lo-carb is newish, which makes it a fad. But the veggie version is a lot healthier than the Atkins one (more fibre, less bowel-cancer). And I happen to know that I have unusually low blood pressure anyway, so I'm not in much danger of clogging my arteries. And I don't even want to lose that much weight - I don't want to be skinny. I know people who find skinny attractive, but personally I don't. A stone down would be more than enough to make me happy.

    So no worries, love.
    :-)
