Fat and Grumpy

Okay, so after nearly 2 weeks of the Wii fit, exercising regularly and sticking to my core diet, I have ... gained 2lbs.

Feckin hell. I must be photosynthesising. Where else is the bloody weight coming from?

On days like this I need something to cheer me up:

  1. But that's good! No, really! Muscle's heavier than fat, so you *should* put on a bit of weight as you get fitter.

As for women's mags, I'd prefer Playboy (if it didn't have so many weirdly hairless women in it).

  2. I just wish it looked like muscle...

I am reliably informed (well, by my Wii Fit) that the medically ideal weight for my height is 8 stone 12 pounds. (124 lbs to Americans)

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

    It ain't going to happen.
Last time I weighed that little I was 19 - I literally couldn't afford to eat, on my Library Assistant wage.

  3. Ah, you must be the same height as me, Janine.

Now I can save my money and buy your next fifty books instead of a Wii Fit (which I was considering). Much better use of resources all round ;).

  4. It's so irresponsible of the Wii to pull those "ideal weight" numbers out of its cybernetic ass. How can there be a unique "ideal weight" for all the different people who happen to be the same height? There are so many other variables, right? My non-medical diagnosis is that that's pernicious bullshit.

I would suggest scrolling through the Wii menus until you find the GO FUCK YOURSELF, WII item. (It's got to be in there somewhere.)

Anyway, big kudos to you for doing the fitness thing!

  7. I understand what Nikki said to be true, which is that muscle weighs more than fat — which incidentally makes watching one's weight as the exclusive measure of "fitness" a dubious method, it seems to me.

And I also agree with Jeremy, and laughed out loud at "out of its cybernetic ass." HA!

Congrats on the orientation toward health and fitness, Janine. How do you feel? That, it seems to me, is as least as important a measurement of such things as the numerous external factors that are purported to be.

  8. Jeremy hit it spot on.

I knew a guy in the Army who had to get a waiver because he was overweight. The man was pure muscle. Hardly an ounce of fat on his body.

They had to run a battery of tests to prove that his weight was okay, like looking at the guy, who could have a collision with a truck and look the fresher of the pair, wasn't enough.

There is no universal weight for a height. There should be no universal ideal for beauty except the beauty in variety and self respect.

  9. Words of wisdom, Craig and Emerald.

    How do I feel?
Well,I'm starting to get a bit of a buzz after an exercise session. Cultivating a mild physical addiction to "jogging" seems to be the way forward!
