Eyecandy Monday

It's not smut - it's culture! The gentleman wearing the novelty bodywarmer is a famous flamenco dancer, Joaquin Cortes (now a UN cultural ambassador for the Roma people, I believe), and that picture is straight from one of his tour posters.

(I have actually watched a flamenco show - in Spain - and it certainly wasn't the worst couple of hours of my life.)

Here's Joaquin in the bare-chested, long-sweaty-hair-swinging action for which he is famous - so Come Dancing!

  1. Yes. Hottt. I don't know if I get flamenco, but he's certainly beautiful, tache notwithstanding.

The top photo reminds me of this theatre poster I have. I found it in a pub and, um, borrowed it. Hold on, I'll post it on my blog...

  5. Flamenco is sexy - all that footstamping and making shapes with hands. Joaquin is divine - he did go out with Naomi Campbell, didn't he? Apparently he spoke no English and she spoke no Spanish. I wonder what on earth they found to do together...?

  6. According to Wikipedia (which is of course never inaccurate) he gained notoriety for his close relationships with high profile celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Giorgio Armani and Mira Sorvino. Gosh. Busy boy! Who'd have thought there were so many famous flamenco fans out there?

  7. I *love* flamenco. I was lucky enough to be in a sort of back patio/beer garden of a bar in Seville once when some spontaneous dancing started. A couple of women dressed in boring secretary clothes were doing all the foot-stamping, hip-swaying, hand-twirling moves while their mates did those impossible clapping rhythms. They were just doing it to entertain themselves. I think they'd had some sherry. It was wonderful. I felt like I was seeing authentic flamenco.

That video was great. Unfortunately, it ended just as the camera was about to pan to the beefy, shaven-headed drummer I'd been hoping to get a better look at. Ah, the curse of the drummer!
