In Quarantine

I'm now a Ravenous Romance author - or I will be soon. I've just signed a contract* for my short story Quarantine, which not only will appear in the e-anthology Experimental: an anthology of Sex & Science (edited by Jamaica Layne), but will ALSO be published as a separate e-short. Yay! Yay yay!

I haven't got a publishing date yet but will post details when they appear on the Ravenous Romance site.

So, they said in the call for submissions that we could write around any Science theme - science fiction, robots, virtual sex, doctors and nurses even ... Guess what I picked as the theme for my jolly sex romp? The Ebola virus.

Hey, I like a challenge.

Actually no one contracts a fatal haemorrhagic disease in Quarantine - they just have to spend 23 days, after a lab accident, crammed in an isolation unit with someone else they don't like. Cue sparks flying.

The terribly scientific picture at top is of Kevin Bacon in the underrated Hollow Man. Since we've seen his botty we might as well take a look at the front too:

Mmm...

* 13 pages, and thus somewhat longer than the actual story!

  1. I like the calls from Ravenous Romance, but I dunno. I'm a bit wary about submitting something after all that brouhaha on Dear Author and stuff.

Though nothing says "Charlotte making too much out of something" like Janine Ashbless writing a story for them.

  2. Yeah, I hear rumours that the "Romance Community" doesn't like them. But given that my name is dogshit anyway in the *lovely* romance community, due to the sort of erotic shenanigans I write about, it's hardly going to make any difference to me. I am never going to be Georgette Heyer, am I.

  3. Do you think the romance community doesn't like them because they are more erotic than romance? I noticed a lot of comments about how they'd called themselves Ravenous Romance but were, you know, doirty. Shock!

Don't get much of that side of it. I'll be wary if I think an ebook site might not last, but I don't understand all the oooh, is it tooo dirty? Is it just dirty enough? Romance = okay, erotic romance = okay, erotica = on yer bike, son.

It's too hard to see the line most of the time, anyway.

Though I don't think your name's dogshit. I've never heard anyone say anything but lovely things about you, and even if they haven't- you know why. It likely has nothing to do with you being rubbish, and everything to do with the fact that they should have stuck to Georgette Heyer. Their loss, I say.

  4. *touched*
    Thank you.

My experience has been that erotica fans and professionals are fairly consistently polite and adult and recognise that it takes different strokes etc.

I like the Erotica Community very much.

  5. Of course, this is the moment I receive notice of a really nice review from Ecata Romance (will post links tomorrow).

This may be God's way of telling me to stop feeling so bloody sorry for myself and quit WHINING.
    :-)

  6. You're not feeling sorry for yourself- it's a lonely little mountain we're climbing up, sometimes.

And I was going to point out a review on that site, too, but I thought naaah. She'll already know about it! In future I should just say- hey! Hey you! See, other people think you're great, too! And not just in the erotica community! (Which I love, too. I just wish it were bigger, so I could get my industry news somewhere other than romance blogs. Ah, I miss Lust Bites!)
